Why advanced dental imaging matters so much for your smile
Desert Ridge Periodontics & Implant Dentistry is highly respected in the field of imaging technologies. In fact, other dentists and dental professionals in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and communities beyond in central Arizona trust us for our highly accurate and advanced diagnostic services.
Why are these services so important?
Our team is led by experts in the fields of periodontics, implant placement, and more. However, we can only detect so much by sight and touch alone. This truth makes technologies used to identify otherwise imperceptible problems and areas of the mouth so important. They help us to properly diagnose the source of toothaches and other distressing symptoms. We can also identify potential problems during a routine exam, including types of issues that you may not have been aware of, as many oral diseases are “silent” and do not cause symptoms early in their progression. With an accurate diagnosis in hand, we can move forward, and you can finally move beyond your pain and other conditions.
Technologies like dental imaging help us to:
Create tailored treatment plans that target and resolve the correct source or root of your problem
Ensure your safety and comfort by protecting against inappropriate or delayed care
Provide timely and prompt care that is also less expensive than a delay in getting the right, effective treatment (the underlying problem remains and only gets worse without the correct treatment)
Monitor how well you are healing, as a proper diagnosis provides a baseline for ongoing evaluation of the condition and associated interventions, and also supports our ability to fine-tune therapies accordingly
What technologies do you use?
The heart of our advanced imaging is dental-specific Cone Beam CT scans (CBCT). Our Dentsply Sirona imaging system renders 3-dimensional images of the structures of your mouth, face, and jaws. Such expansive and clear images allow us to both accurately diagnose problems and guide precision treatment planning – including the placement of dental implants.
How does this technology compare to other types of imaging?
Traditionally, dentists and other medical professionals have used standard, 2-dimensional X-rays and conventional medical CT scanners. Our state-of-the-art technology can capture and create images faster, more comfortably, and with radiation exposure that is 300 times lower than that of traditional scanners. Additionally, the 3-dimensional nature of our imaging system enables the visualization of cysts, cancers, perforations, fractures, and inflammatory conditions that are not easily detectable with 2-dimensional radiography. The high-resolution images can be rendered in 8.5 seconds, and the open design of this system limits discomfort and anxiety associated with traditional scans and diagnostic services.
How does Desert Ridge Periodontics & Implant Dentistry use these images?
This technology supports the success of your implants. It helps to guide the precise placement of each implant in the jawbone. We know exactly where to place your “root substitute” to ensure its long-term stability. Precision implant placement also helps to minimize the risk of nerve and sinus involvement when performing surgery in the lower and upper jaw, respectively. Ongoing scans enable patients who may need us to monitor for progressive conditions, such as bone loss, and assess bone recovery and changes following regenerative procedures and root canal therapy. We can also overcome potential challenges to successful root canal treatment by identifying additional canals or roots and altering treatment accordingly.
