An introduction to All-on-4 implants … minimally invasive treatment to support a maximum number of teeth
Dental implants are transforming the way dentists enhance smiles. The implant is a small post made from tissue-friendly materials like titanium. These materials are designed to integrate into the jawbone. Once the implant has effectively become a part of the jaw, it functions as a tooth root. The new/replacement tooth can then be attached to the implant. So, it provides a stable base for each tooth. Desert Ridge Periodontics & Implant Dentistry in Scottsdale, Arizona, also has the capabilities to replace all the teeth with implants.
Do I need an implant for each new tooth?
No. Our team uses All-on-4 implants. This option means we can apply a minimal number of implants to support all the new teeth in the upper or lower dental arch. True to its name, as few as four implants may be used to replace all of the upper or lower teeth.
Why don’t I need more implants to replace so many teeth?
The “magic” of All-on-4 is how we place each implant in a way that makes the best use of available bone. When placed in a way that uses maximum bone, we can keep the number of implants used to a minimum. This approach has several benefits:
It’s less invasive.
Treatment requires fewer implants or treatment sites.
As a minimally invasive technique, All-on-4 is associated with less discomfort.
This minimally invasive approach supports a faster recovery.
It costs less as fewer implants are needed.
By making the best use of available bone, grafting is not necessary.
As a “graft-less” procedure, more patients can enjoy all that implants offer.
Individuals with existing bone loss who are not candidates for surgery or who do not want surgery, such as bone grafting, are not precluded from implants with All-on-4.
Implants can be placed during the same visit as any extractions that you may need.
You may get your new teeth immediately, too—you never have to be seen in public without teeth!
What can I expect from treatment?
Treatment largely involves using special techniques to place each implant. While you may need just four implants, treatment may be completed with a few more implants. For this reason, this technique is sometimes referred to as “All-on-6” or “All-on-X” implants, too. The total number of implants needed depends on factors like the overall quantity, quality, and density of your bone, as well as the chewing demands and bite forces that may be placed on your new teeth.
After each implant has been carefully placed, we wait for them to naturally and safely fuse or integrate with the surrounding bone. This process can take several months. To protect the treatment sites and to restore the appearance and function of your smile as the implants heal, you will be provided with temporary teeth. After the implants and bone have fully integrated, we can design and eventually place your permanent, full-arch restoration.
