How does laser periodontal therapy compare to conventional surgery?
Conventional approaches involve cutting open the damaged gum tissue. Treatment is performed through these incisions. Once complete, the openings must be closed with sutures/stitches. Lasers allow our team to avoid using any cutting techniques or tools, such as scalpels. Since there is no cutting, we don’t need to apply sutures. We then pass the laser over the damaged tissues precisely. We do so twice; first, the laser is introduced to kill disease-causing bacteria, and second, the laser energy is reintroduced to kill remaining bacteria and create a stable fibrin clot. This blood clot provides a natural seal, which protects the healing site and supports the regeneration of bone and tissue.
